Fall 2007

There are so many exciting things going on during the next few months that I haven’t had a chance to think, or update the newsletter.

We did participate in the Mutt Strutt (a fundraiser for the Friends of New Haven Shelter) on September 29th and enjoyed meeting many new and old friends. October 12th to 14th we are welcoming Cindy Hobson, a professional photographer, back to the shop and appointments are quickly filling up. It's a great opportunity for some Christmas card shots. On October 20th we will be at Pit Bull Awareness Day at Edgerton Park in New Haven. This is a national event and will allow people to learn more about this great breed, meet some in person, see some agility events, and maybe even put in an application to adopt one of the four-legged visitors from the New Haven Shelter.

October 27th, from 11:00 am–4:00 pm we will have a real “scarecrow” on the premises for a Halloween photo opportunity with your pet (maybe in costume?). Evelyn and Leo will be our photographers and the proceeds (all donations) will be divided between Hamden R-DOG and the New Haven Shelter. Also that day we will have noted author and pit bull advocate Ken Foster at the shop for a book signing. His new new book Dogs I Have Met and the People They Found for purchase. He will be with us from 12:00–2:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet a real voice for rescue.

Please remember to order all breed specific and personalized holiday gifts before the Thanksgiving deadline. In addition to the great companies we worked with last year, we have found new sources of some unique gifts. We also have all the new Webkinz releases. Of course, the bakery will be stocked with yummy, chemical and preservative free seasonal treats.

Some holiday hazards from the ASPCA for the upcoming months...

  • Candy or gum containing xylitol is toxic to your pet.
  • Turkey, chicken, and other small animal bones can splinter easily and cause serious internal damage.
  • Poinsettias are NOT toxic to your pet, however holly, mistletoe, and lilies ARE toxic to both dogs and cats.
  • Christmas tree water can cause severe stomach upsets.
  • Melting salts, antifreeze, and of course chocolate are all very hazardous if ingested.

I have created a MySpace page to blog planned and unplanned events, so please look us up. Blogging is fun! Click Here

Have a great fall.
